The problem you describe is exactly why I setup my own internal name server.
It's only queried by internal clients. Plus I have configured DDNS/DHCP so
all clients can be resolved even if my DSL line is down.

Before you post to the sendmail NG, I would suggest that you load the
sendmail-cf RPM and read the README file. The section that applies to your
post is labeled "ANTI-SPAM CONFIGURATION CONTROL". In particular the access
map "connect" directive might be of some interest. Plus maybe the
accept_unresolvable_domains feature on your outbound relay server.
