This message may not be of any help to you at all, but I have successfully built dante 1.1.11 on Redhat 7.1. As I recall, I had to make quite a few changes to the dante source code in order to get it working. Unfortunately they were all superceded when I modified the same source tree (stupidly without backing it up first) to compile against uClibc instead of glibc (I had this urge to make a socks capable Linux 2.4 firewall that could boot comfortably off a 2mb FlashROM). The conglomeration I ended up with is at http://firebox.chebucto.org if you're interested. I haven't updated the site in over a year, but this is largely because the latest release seems to work perfectly for everything I've wanted to do with it. My desire for a user-friendly configuration front-end and PPP support have not yet been sufficient to get me to commit time to them.
