I would probably abandon WU-Ftp for something like ProFTP, mainly
because I've been burned by a WU-FTP exploit before. But, given that you
are running it, are you getting to the login?  If not, check
/etc/xinetd.d and be sure it's enabled. If so, then check /etc/ftpusers
and be sure your user is not in there.
