Dear Rodrigo, though I've no solution perhaps I can give you a hint. Mandrake has just cool tools built into their latest release, i.e. they are the only ones offering a KDE applet monitoring battery status when acpi is activated. This applet is called kacpi. See rpmseek.net.
No idea, wheather equivalent tools are available for Gnome, nor if RedHat offers anything...
