I have a pci firewire card in my pc that's running rh 8.0 . I've connected a firewire cd burner (cyberdrive) to the card. The burner works fine with the original kernel rh 8.0 shipped with (2.4.18-14) but does not work with the lates kernel I got using up2date (2.4.18-24.8.0). Does anyone know why this is? What's different between the two kernels. I did a quick compare of the files found in the modules directory for each one, and the only driver in the original that I found was bcm5700. I'm not sure what that is though or if it's even remotely relevant.

To be more precise about the issue. In the old kernel the cd burner was automatically added to scsi bus 1 by kudzu. In the new kernel, while kudzu says it recognizes and can configure the cd burner it does not add it the scsi bus, according to the scsi viewer in KDE and "cdrecord --scanbus".

ideas anyone?
