Hallo, i'm wondering why it is so difficult to start RedHat Read-Only. I did compiled an kernel with /dev/ram support and used to mount /var and /tmp over /dev/ram0 and /dev/ram1. I also removed some links from /etc/rc3.d/ which seemed to make problems.
But my system fall asleep after all init Scripts of runlevel 3 where executed with: Init: Id "1" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes Init: Id "2" ... ... Nothing more to be done ... My System doesnt answer any pings or could be administrated over ssh (something i cant understand because ssh and network seemed to start just fine). On an debian 3.0 and SuSE 8.1 System i got no problems to realize an read-only System (even an kernel with /dev/ram Support wasn't needed). I just had to deactivate sysklogd (debian) or the remount,rw lines on some startscripts (suse). So i'm realy wondering about what's the clue with redhat 8.0. Does it realy needs an writeable /etc Dir (got an message about read-only status of /etc/mtab)? Are there more Dirs which are needed rw or do i have to change something else? Thanks for any helping idea and sorry about my worse grammar :-))) greetinXs, Michael Hilscher -- Would Mozart have been more productive if he had scribes to help him, a secretary and a CEO to lead his way? -- Linus Torvalds -- redhat-list mailing list unsubscribe mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] https://listman.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/redhat-list
