I've got NIS set up and mostly working under Red Hat 8.0 However,
yppasswd is working very sporadically, if at all.

I've got my NIS files in /etc/yp So, after looking at the init script,
I set ETCDIR=/etc/yp and restarted yppasswdd That works for the local
host, but not any other hosts... I get yppasswdd not running on NIS
master host And, after a while (like overnight), it just stops working
on localhost, and I need to set ETCDIR and restart yppasswdd again.

A) How do I keep yppasswdd working reliably?

B) How do I fix it so I can yppasswdd from other hosts?

All hosts are Red Hat 8.0 with the versions of ypbind and yp-tools that
came with. There are no firewalls or any other connectivity issues.
I'll be happy to supply any other relevant details.
