Hello!

Is there any RedHat 8.0 workaround for bug 4433 in glibc? The problem is
the following:

I have 'hosts: files dns' in my /etc/nsswitch.conf but whenever an
application (telnet, ftp or similar) tries to resolve something that is in
/etc/hosts file (such as 'localhost'), the resolver sends a DNS query of
type AAAA (i.e. IPv6) query for it without bothering to look at /etc/hosts
file.

This causes a long delay in establishing connections to localhost. But
what is worse is that it causes my auto dial-up link to go up because it
tries to contact the DNS server.

I was wondering, since this bug has been around for a while (it was
reported in Sep 2002) is there any workaround for it? I really don't need
IPv6 and if necessary I can disable it completely.

Thanks,
Josip
