Hi all,

I am having a little problem with RH8 in trying to use the virtual text
consoles (Alt+Ctrl+F[1-6]). I have a Matrox Parhelia video card and have
installed the Matrox beta v0.21 mtx.o module. XFree86 runs just fine
(Alt+Ctrl+F7) but I can't bring up a text console. When I do Alt+Ctrl+F1,
the screen goes blank and my computer monitor, Philips 107P, tells me that
27MHz/62Hz is not supported. My monitor's minimum is 30MHz/50Hz.

When I initially installed RH8, it installed the VESA drivers. I used
Matrox's sample XF86Config file to get XFree86 to use the mtx driver. BTW,
when I was using the VESA drivers, my screen would get badly garbled when
switcing to a text console (various blinking and invrted text characters)
but would look good in X console mode.

How do I get the text console mode to use a horizontal sync of at least
30MHz?

Thanks,
Steven
