I am having the same issue ... If I change the password using yppasswd
on the client box, or on the server box, the other box does not see the
change, even after I go into the /var/yp directory and type "make".
Even after a yppush from the server, or a ypxfrd from the client. As
well, after I restart ypserv, then ypbind, reboot machines, whatever.
The command yppasswd does not complain on the box used, but the other
box sees no change in passwords for the user. Here is some output:
A yptest passes on the users I need to change info for, password info.
And root and nobody have no keys in any maps, which is correct I
believe.
[root@triplezero root]# ypmatch root passwd
Can't match key root in map passwd.byname. Reason: No such key in map
[root@triplezero root]#
My nsswitch.conf has been configured to use NIS, and was configured
with authconfig. It has also now been set to use DNS for the hosts
portion, since both of the boxes are DNS servers. My /etc/host.conf is:
order hosts, nis, bind
An interesting question: Since my NIS server, triplezero, is also
a client, does it's yp.conf have to be un-commented out? As of right
now, only the box that is strictly just a client is using that certain
file. As well, there are no slaves in this issue, since I want the
client box to strictly be a client. Any clues would be greatly
appreciated ... I have been at this going on several days now, on and
off. Even bought the new NIS/NFS edition, which is nice, but has not
too many password solutions for clients. The man pages have, as usual,
have been the biggest help.
