LDAP ---seems to be good

Hello All,   I am back again and this time I have deceided to check out LDAP completely before migrating to it. I still have a little doubt about how the client can understand if it is getting authenticated by a NIS server or a LDAP. Should we mention the IP address of the LDAP server while installing only ? or can it be changed even after installing ?    I am sorry if I am asking too much of a doubt about this. Can any one please refer me a  link which can clarify my doubts ?       regards     Senthil
