And which "powers that be" would you be referring to?  What do you
propose they do about it?  Frankly, there's not a darn thing the mailing
list adminstrators can do - anybody is welcome to subscribe to the list
or to archive the list.  Even spammers can subscribe to the list and
simply use it to obtain e-mail addresses.

Bottom line is that you're responsible for controlling your incoming
mail.  You can't expect somebody else to control who can get a hold of
your e-mail address.  It would be nice, but it just isn't going to
happen.
