Is that really all you've done before booting started to fail? I
presume there must have been something else for LILO re-installation
to fail. By any chance, have you played with BIOS settings or
partition tools?

- From LILO's docs:

LIL- The descriptor table is corrupt. This can either be caused
by a geometry mismatch or by moving /boot/map without running
          the map installer.

The important detail in your message might be "I'm using the NT
Loader" because that means you install LILO into a primary
partition, read out the boot block, transfer it to NT and include it
into the NT Loader menu. You should re-install LILO with "lilo -v"
and repeat transfering the LILO boot block to NT Loader. When you
install a new kernel, LILO is re-installed, but you still keep your
old kernel. You should now find out whether "lilo -v" fails or
whether NT Loader fails to boot LILO. Alternatively, wipe your NT
Loader and install LILO into MBR (just for testing).

If you reply to this, please include your /etc/lilo.conf and
partition table.
