No I use it in 7.3. Part of the standard 7.3 distro I believe. I am sure the version in 8.x are newer though. I use imap so it was a non issue for me. Perhaps if all your mail is local to your machine, (pop) you could start imapd and move the mail to new imap folders and then bring em into evolution that way.
