I've had the same problem with netvistas.
After pounding on it for a while, mine turned out to be network related.
Seems that the integrated ethernet isn't too stable. Any network
activity at all would freeze the box.

My solution:

Install an add-on ethernet card, and disable the onboard (or at least,
don't activate it at boot time).

After I did that, it works fine.
