I have looked around for some nice backup scripts or console
applications for my Redhat 7.3 system. There are some nice scripts around, but most of require a good amount of configuration (I'm looking for the easy way out!). I can't really understand > > > some of the more complicated scripts enough to get through each step and figure it out myself.

Bu is a convenient, simple to use, yet powerful incremental
command line backup tool for Linux and FreeBSD. It is designed
to backup files to other hard drives or over NFS, as opposed to backing up to tape. The new bu-3.x beta also has a new set of
features to dump filesystems to multi-volume optical CD-RW
disks under FreeBSD. Linux support for CD-RW dumps will be
added when I get a chance to finish that portion of the code.
....
there is lots more on that page
I have been using bu myself a long time
easy to download and install
