Dear Group,
I have looked around for some nice backup scripts or console applications
for my Redhat 7.3 system. There are some nice scripts around, but most of
require a good amount of configuration (I'm looking for the easy way
out!). I can't really understand some of the more complicated scripts
enough to get through each step and figure it out myself.
I'd basically like to do a full system backup, so I could simply boot from
the redhat CD in case of a crash, and restore my system to its original
state by simply copying the files back to a native bare bones system in
case of HD crash (unless someone suggests otherwise). READ: Easy painless
disaster recovery.
The linux backup howto is really not very detailed or complete, IMHO, and
in any case doesn't really include some of the Redhat specific stuff. A
quick net search on the same subject turned up little of real help.
I would be especially interested in backup methods which have been well
tested and are easy to implement. I'll probably do an rsync cron job or
something to copy any backup files over the net to an off-site location
once the backup .tgz or whatever files are generated from the script.
By the way, this list reminds me of how nice usenet (and indeed the net)
were 10 years ago.
Thanks much,
Ryan
