Stephen,

I was going to install the SDK myself and just got done reading the Linux Build Instructions for the Java 2SDK, Standard Edition, v1.4.0 fcs and see that there are a lot of library setups in the Linux Build Tools and Libraries Setup section.

I don't have much to offer you but did you read through the installation document and set everything up as outlined? Setting up java is a bit tedious and it is easy to miss something.

Did you compile a simple java program successfully in the command line to test the JRE and your system's environment settings?

I am very interested in what you did or do to get a successful jave JRE installation. Keep the list informed.

Hello,

I'm having problems with red hat, I have just started with Linux and am not very good with the command line.

I am trying to install Sun ONE Studio (Java IDE) but first I have to install Java SDK. I have installed it but when I try and run the installer for Sun ONE I get an error it says java not found, if I do java -version I get an error with words to the effect that permission is denied and something to do with .bash.

I know the SDK installed becuase when I try and install it again I get told it is already installed.
