I'd be interested in seeing any solutions or ideas to this problem, since it seems like it's related to some other problems I'm having (mostly just gdk library warnings that show up whenever I launch an X application -- as well as copying and pasting text from one application to another, notably anything involving Gaim).
For what it's worth, I've had no problems with xpdf on my system, reading any pdf document I've tried to open. Haven't tried cutting-and-pasting from it, though.
