I did an upgrade from 7.2 to 8.0 on an old machine and experienced the same 
problems. That's why I *won't* upgrade my newer machine. (Danger, Will 
Robinson!)

I also did a full install on a friend's laptop, and things work much better, 
except for sound which doesn't work at all. If you really need 8.0, by all 
means do a fresh install.
