I would look at an Nvidia Chipset based graphics card, as you can locate those relatively inexpensively. Plus, Nvidia does have easy to install OpenGL compatible drivers available on their web-site. (Sure they aren't Open Source, but in the end all that matters is good performing graphics, which Nvidia delivers.)
