Are you having problems, or are you just asking a general
question?

I got PHP and Apache working yesterday on a new machine
with a straight install from the RH 8.0 CD's - one change to
the /etc/php.ini config (enabled short tags), and quite a few
changes to the Apache httpd.conf - but I don't think(?) any
of those httpd.conf changes affected PHP.

I used redhat-config-packages - even after a new install, you
can run it and it shows you what's already installed, and lets
you install(or uninstall) packages. It lets you select general
groupings, but it also lets you dig down to select(or not)
specific packages. Make sure you select all the PHP
packages you need, and the Apache web server(I think there
is a general "Web Server" grouping IIRC).

HTH.
