The main point about single-user-mode is that it basically goes 90% of
the way to undoing the boot process.   All system daemons are stopped,
and the system provides a shell just for root to do stuff.

This allows you to do major surgery on bits of the system.  For
example you can unmount and move filesystems now that they are no
longer being used by lots of processes.

To leave single user mode, either use "telinit 3" or type exit; init
will prompt you for the runlevel to go to.
