Yes, I have checked my grub.conf and see both OS entries there. The problem there is that when I select the WinXP entry at boot, instead of booting XP it simply shows the Grub screen again.
The lilo.conf I posted had the omission, the one I actually used did have boot=/dev/hda so it would install itself in the MBR, as opposed to the root part (/dev/hda5).
So.... the question and problems remain. At this moment my priority is 2 be able 2 boot WinXP again. After that I can go back to the original problem (that got me into this mess) of using only GRUB in the root part (not in the MBR) with a graphical screen. I hope somebody has some good pointers because my skin is on the line (need to be able to run XP).
