Hmmmm...I haven't looked at 6.2 in a while, but the default install should yield a /var/spool/mail directory with the correct permissions. Each user should own their own mail spool file, with no other user having the right to read or modify the file. So, if your permissions allow users to view or modify other users mail spool file, something is wrong! My current mail directories from a 7.2 and 7.3 box have each user owning their mail file, with 550 permissions.
