Cd-rom help

Hello, I've checked at boot........My Cd-rom drive shows up as "hdc"......... and in my "est/fstab" file, it says.."/dev/hdc ----------->/mnt/cdrom" iso9660 bla blah..........and so on.  I am stupmed, and everytime i go to mount my Cd-rom drive, it gives me the hdc is not a Valid block device message.  Could someone please help me out with this situation................thanks
