It stops working under normal circumstances. No sleep required. ifconfig eth0 reports a healty interface.
I do see lines like this in the messages file when it stops working: (date) hostname kernel: eepro100: wait_for_cmd_done timeout! (sometimes this message is repeated many times) That seems to happen every time the interface stops working.
