I am running XFree86 on RH5 with a Matrox Millenium II. It all runs fine at 1280x1024 by 24 bit. However, the problem I have is that one particular app that I have to run expects an 8-bit display and therefore complains about not being able to find the correct "Visual" and refuses to run. If I run the display in an 8-bit mode then this app runs fine, but of course my other apps look crap - and the color map is exhausted pretty quickly. Is there any way to make this app think that an 8-bit visual is available whilst running the display in a 24 or 32-bit mode?
