Did that...this is what I get when typing 'startx' now:

Mode name expected
_X11TransSocketUNIXConnect: Can't connect: errno = 111
giving up.
xinit: Connection refused (errno 111): unable to connect to X server
xinit: No such process (errno 3): Server error.

IF you still have XFree86 installed,
You need to:
rickdman # ls -al `which X`
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 6 Mar 22 17:17 /usr/X11R6/bin/X ->Xaccel
cd /usr/X11R6/bin
rm X
ln -s XFserverOFchoice X
Probably need to run the X configuration utility that comes
with XFree.
Don't remember, been on Xaccel for several years now.
Main point, the link to X is which X Server will be run.
