I have a 486 PC with Redhat 4.2 installed which I had previously used as
a webserver. I am trying to decide whether I can convert it to a
workstation (w/ dialup to a national ISP)...
and still keep Apache available (but of course not alive unless I'm
offline) so I can play with a web/database on the machine.

I guess my general questions are...

1. what deamons should I shut down ( besides HTTPD, SENDMAIL, ) ?

2. How? I believe I should just 'remove' Sendmail and I think I could
either use the 'kill' for Apache or remove the reference in the
appropriate 'rc' file ? Does anyone know which 'rc' file?

3. Am I going to want to use fetchmail to get my mail or can/should I use
something like Netscape/Mail?

4. I have an ethernet card installed....is it possible that I can use it
and a local address (with Apache) for development purposes when not
connected to my dialup ISP?

Thanks for your guidance....
I've not had to do this before and am wondering if I should just
reinstall?
