Hi, I have a 2 PC lan at home, one win95 the other linux. I might have jumped into the deep end here when I installed RH5 I included DNS and a whole host of other things as I hope to set the linux box up as an email and newsgroup server and also do IP Masq. I'm very new to Linux about 3 weeks :) At the moment I'm just having problems getting the linux machine to ping the win95 machine, following the NET-3-HOWTO I have modified the various config files. After reading some postings here I have checked my routing using the route command. I am still to get the linux machine to ping the 95 machine, and visa versa. The network address I'm using is 192.168.10.0 the hosts are 9 -> 95 box and 10 -> linux box. I can telnet to the local loop address, I don't know if that means anything, but I can't telnet into the linux box from the 95 machine. My routing table looks like this: dest gateway genmask flags metric ref use iface 192.169.10.0 * 255.255.255.0 U 0 0 9 eth0 default 192.168.10.1 255.255.255.0 UG 0 0 0 eth0 127.0.0.0 * 255.0.0.0 U 0 0 15 lo I'm really confused as to how I get the IP address of the gateway, or at the least how it's determined. I only came up with the host address of 1 from some reading somewhere. Also, I'm using DNS (not very well I'm guessing) on the same machine, what would the name server be? .10?
