Advantages: Most new software is being compiled for 5.0, so if you
want to run the latest greatest of anything, you'll need to run
5.0. 5.0 will still run old programs too, so you aren't left in the
cold. And if you want to write "C" programs, "glibc" is much better
documented and much more standard than the old "libc5".

Disadvantages: 5.0 includes TK/TCL 8.0. This is a much improved TCL and TK,
but there are some inevitible migration difficulties. Half the TCL/TK stuff
in my toolkit no longer works, including my fave, 'tkman'. Bummer.

But that's more a condemnation of TCL/TK than of Red Hat. It happens
every time TCL or TK is upgraded -- existing TCL/TK programs stop
working for no good reason. Not my idea of a stable or reliable way of
doing things :-(.
