Hi everybody,

I've just had some sort of crash two days ago, (in the messages file i got
plenty of lines like these :

Mar 16 17:20:34 xxx kernel: 08:01: rw=0, want=1094795586, limit=1020096
Mar 16 17:20:39 xxx kernel: attempt to access beyond end of device )

I don't know exactly what it was, i think it was a disk problem.
When i rebooted, i had to use fsck and i think it fixed the problems.

Now what i'd like to now is if the error message i get when i try to do an
apropos <something> is the result of this mini-crash.

The message is for example :

[1root@iae log]# apropos time
apropos: manpath is null

When i use man i've got a brain new error too : it shows me the man but at
the beginning i've got this

[root@iae log]# man time
Error executing formatting or display command.
System command (cd /usr/man ; (echo ".ll 9.9i"; cat /usr/man/man2/time.2) |
/usr/bin/gtbl | /usr/bin/groff -Tas
cii -mandoc | /usr/bin/less -is) exited with status 127.

TIME(2)             Linux Programmer's Manual             TIME(2)

NAME
       time - get time in seconds

SYNOPSIS
       #include <time.h>

       time_t time(time_t *t);

DESCRIPTION
       time returns the time since 00:00:00 GMT, January 1, 1970,
       measured in seconds................
.......... and so and so

This second point is not very important as far as i've got the man but it's
not normal.

I'm not sure the problem started EXACTLY after the crash but maybe it's the
case.

Has anybody got an idea first concerning the exact reason of the crash,
then why are apropos and man bugging.

     Thanks for your help.
