Interesting. I never really noticed before, since it has always worked.
Here is what my fdisks are for my three disks:
/dev/hda1 1 1 1024 483808+ 83 Linux native
/dev/hda2 1024 1025 1302 131355 82 Linux swap
/dev/hda3 1024 1303 11162 4658850 83 Linux native
/dev/hdc1 1 1 4962 2500816+ 83 Linux native
/dev/hdd1 1 1 800 1612768+ 83 Linux native
/dev/hdd2 801 801 850 100800 82 Linux swap
The hda disk turned out like yours, but I have no trouble at all with it.
The hdd disk didn't mess up.
Make of it as you will. Color me as confused as you.
