The Nov05 aic7xxx code that's in the 2.0.33 kernel has a bug in the
REQUEST_SENSE processing that can make it crash when a CD actually sends
back sense information during bootup. Grab the aic7xxx-5.0.8 patch file
from ftp.dialnet.net:/pub/linux/aic7xxx and that should fix the kernel panic
problem. There are some changes to the parameter passing for that kernel,
so make sure you read the file /usr/src/linux/drivers/scsi/README.aic7xxx in
detail and pay special attention to the fact that if you load this driver as
a module, you need to replace all commas on the config line with periods.
When you can get the system to boot up on the new kernel and can do a:
cat /proc/scsi/aic7xxx/0
and it reports you are using 5.0.8, then see if you still have this problem
and if so get back to me and we'll get it worked out.
