Dial in PPP RH5

Gidday All,
I confuguired the dial in straight from PPP Setup Tips by Robert Hart. A friend of mine is dialling in ,logging on and starting the ppp ok as the copy of the /var/logs/messages below states. The point that things go wrong is "Could not determine local IP address". I have looked thur Nag but I'm still lost. I have also listed a couple of querries and points to the above below as well. Any help would be appeciated.

1. Dialling in and logging on via vt100 works Ok.

2. I,m new and confused with this HOSTNAME thing, do I have to change all files that refere to hostnane or just type in "hostname bla bla" when I log in as root.

3. In my /etc/ppp/options.tty01 I have blabla:slip01

4. For a person dailling in to access the apache server, would they just put http://127.0.0.1/ into their machines browser.
