I'm sure this has been discussed on the list before but I can't seem to
find what I am looking for, neither on DejaNews nor in the mailing lists
archives. As a last resort, I am looking here :-)
In the old days when I used redhat 4.2 with a USR 33.6 PnP (NOT WinModem),
along with a Dell Motherboard that had only 1 serial port, things were
working fine. Modem was detected under COM2.
Now things have changed: I upgraded my motherboard to an ASUS TX-97-XE that
has 2 Serial ports. I kept the modem. Under win95, I had to disable com2 to
make things work (in fact I disabled com2 right in the bios setup).
I installed RH5, and now my modem cannot be recognized anymore. I used the
modem tool in the control panel to establish the link in /dev, I tried cua0
1 2 3, and ttyS0 1 2 3, but to no avail.
I even tried minicom, nothing there.
I downloaded isapnptools, and configured it, ran it as: isapnp
/etc/isapnp.conf at the # prompt, saw 2 lines (Yamaha sound card and USR
modem) being "recognized?". I then tried to connect, modem is still not
recognized.
What gives? I read the PPP howto, nothing there really.
The worst thing is that I was able to connect with redhat 4.2, but not with
5.0 !!
Any kind soul out there, please help me :-)
Karl
