I thinks fips is only for dos fat partitions.

I just found this is the fips documentation:
"FIPS is a program designed to split an existing DOS
partition without deleting the data on it."
It's in the dosutils directory of the redhat distribution.

There is a commercial package called Partition Magic that can resize and
move partitions but I don't know if that would solve your problem either.
The version I have cannot handle ext2 partitions.
There is a newer version out now.

I guess you'll have to appeal to someone with more know-how than me.

I suppose worst case is reinstall everything but that would take a while.
