I posted this problem a few days ago and Erik responded - just use:
--nodeps
BTW, I also had to --force it because of errors like:
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb/rules/xfree86 conflicts with file from
XFree86-VGA16-3.3.1-1
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb/rules/xfree86-it.lst conflicts with file from
XFree86-VGA16-3.3.1-1
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb/rules/xfree86.lst conflicts with file from
XFree86-VGA16-3.3.1-1
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb/symbols/nec/jp conflicts with file from
XFree86-VGA16-3.3.1-1

Just use --nodeps... Tha packages were built with the right pam, but
