I had this same problem and found the answer by searching the
archives at www.dejanews.com. For me the answer was to set the
timezone variable.
export TZ=CST
It doesn't seem like it should make a difference, but it worked.
The archives at dejanews are a life saver when you have a
problem. The archives at www.redhat.com don't seem to work.
If anyone can tell me what the status is on the redhat archives,
I'd love to know.
