I had the same problem with the procps things on the machines at
GenRad. I think what I ended up doing was to rpm -e both of them and
then do the rpm -Uvh for them.
When I do 'rpm -q --whatrequires libproc.so.1.2.6', I get:
procps-1.2.7-1
procps-X11-1.2.7-1
When I do 'rpm -q --whatprovides libproc.so.1.2.6', I get:
procps-1.2.7-1
So if you get rid of both of them, you oughta be able to install
procps followed by procps-X11.
Let me know if that doesn't work and I'll try harder to remember what
I *REALLY* did.

You mean you need xterms? Doncha know everybody is supposed to do
everything with GUIs & mice and menus these days? :-)
Being a totally left-brain person who hates going through 15 levels of
menus to do what one could do with a few keystrokes, I can sympathize.

I reordered the list to make it easier to compare. (pete p.)
How come the stuttuttuttering on imap and tmpwatch?

I have the same version of all of these installed and xterm works fine
for me.
Could you elaborate on "not allowing me any xterms"?
Error message?
Nothing happens?
Something else?
Is xterm the *ONLY* thing that doesn't work? Same result with 'xterm'
and 'nxterm'?.
Maybe some setup file that you had modified got overwritten. Are
there any xxx.rpmsave files that might relate to the problem?
Does 'rpm -Va > /tmp/rpmvfy' provide any enlightenment?
I assume you're trying to invoke the xterm from a menu item. What
happens if you invoke it from a command line so you get to see any
error messages? Yeah, I know, you're gonna ask me how you invoke it
from a command line when you have no xterm window into which to type
the command line. Try starting Emacs and do "<esc>x shell". That
should give you a command prompt.
I'm off for about a 10 mile walk. My brain usually functions somewhat
better on walks and in the shower, so maybe something will come to mind
during the walk. I'll be back in about 2.5 hours.
