This is a problem with your "X" server, not with any window manager. I had
the same problem with flakey "X" servers on my Trident 9660 card.  An old
Accelerated X was problematic, leaving "sparkles" around, while the
version of XFree86 that existed back then had massive font corruption
problems. Finally someone fixed XFree86 to solve these problems, and I
haven't had them since. 

Point: Don't point your finger at Red Hat. They ship what XFree86 ships
them. It's sort of like blaming your Chevy dealer for the fact that the
Corvette burns a lot of gas. It's not as if they have much control over it
:-(.
