Actually, the program that controls the display is the X Server (in the
sense that it serves the monitor, keyboard, and mouse, etc.), whilst the
programs that run (such as xterms) are X Clients. If you are referring to
hosts, I don't think there is official terminology for them, but I believe
the host on which the X Client executes is called the X Host, and the
machine on which the X Server resides is the X Terminal. I could be wrong,
but that's what I call them.
