I managed to get qpopper to work with APOP. In any case, that appears to be a
standard crypt-based problem that often occurs in compiling under RH 5. Try
adding -lcrypt to LIBS in your Makefile. Hope that helps.
LIBS = -lresolv -lcrypt -lgdbm
