Hi Dave:

A (couple of) week(s) or so ago we had a dicussion about installing glibc
on RedHat 4.2 and you suggested upgrading to 5.0. Well I took the plunge,
and I am mostly satisfied but I have a couple of issues I'd like to ask
you about.

To start, I want to mention that I upgraded a 4.2 installation to 5.0
using the upgrade option on the install disk.

  First of all, none of my programs that were originally
installed on my libc5 machine work anymore. For example, netscape
complains that
netscape: can't load library 'libXt.so.6'
[modulus@orpheus netscape]$ ldd navigator
        libXt.so.6 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libXt.so.6 (0x40005000)
        libSM.so.6 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libSM.so.6 (0x40048000)
        libICE.so.6 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libICE.so.6 (0x40050000)
        libXmu.so.6 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libXmu.so.6 (0x40064000)
        libXpm.so.4 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libXpm.so.4 (0x40076000)
        libXext.so.6 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libXext.so.6 (0x40083000)
        libX11.so.6 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libX11.so.6 (0x4008e000)
        libdl.so.1 => /lib/libdl.so.1 (0x40125000)
        libc.so.5 => /lib/libc.so.5 (0x40128000)
        libg++.so.27 => not found
        libstdc++.so.27 => not found
        libm.so.5 => /lib/libm.so.5 (0x40200000)
        libc.so.6 => /lib/libc.so.6 (0x40209000)
        /lib/ld-linux.so.1 => /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x2aaaa000)

navigator is a symbolic link to netscape.

What do I need to do under RedHat 5 to be able to programs that are linked
against libc5.
In this case I think it is more of an issue with the linker, but how in
general do I get libc linked programs to work in Redhat 5?

Also, I keep getting the following message from PAM:

After the initial upgrade I could not log in. SO I restarted in single
user mode and installed pam-0.64-1 which is found in /pub/home/gafton on
the redhat ftp server. I checked the logs and the messages were as above.
Installing pam-0.64 fixed the problem, but as I speak I am getting the
same messages again and I cannot su, or telnet into my machine. If I try
to login in nay way I get booted off immediately after typing in my login
name.... any ideas or advice, anyone?????
