Default init level is 3 already. I hacked inittab to leave me 1 normal tty (tty1) for
emergency useage.

Tried adding -bpp 16 to that line in /etc/X11/xdm/Xervers. Xdm constantly cycled,
/etc/X11/xdm/xdm-errors reports no screens to use. Strange. I'm using RedHat 4.1 &
XFree86 3.2, right off the CD.

AccelleratedX 2.1ish (from a Caldera CD a bud gave me) works and comes up in 16 bits,
but gives me an intermittant crash, prolly due to a libc incompatibility. I can use
it, but I'd rather use something that doesn't crash when I look at it sideways. <sigh>

Thanks, tovarisch. You tried.
