Yesterday I compiled bash modifying the config.h in order to have a restricted 
shell and now it is working fine!

if you disable readline, termcap and history you get something like 800K..
how is possible to get the default 300K? Is there a source code with all the 
options used by RH people to compile it?

Yes, I have already done it, but if I want people to be able to use ls, dir 
commands I need to give them a ls statically linked (or copy the tree used for 
anonymous ftp)

ok. maybe it should not be the default option, but could it be useful to have it 
as a possibility...
