Hi, Some surprises... I see that "depmod -a" works on RHL 5.1, that is, it creates a modules.dep in /lib/modules/preferred. I also see that rc.sysinit calls "depmod -a" with an extra "preferred" parameter. A few questions: - Why does it also work _without_ the extra parameter (there is no overriding option in conf.modules either)? Is this a non-documented feature of depmod? - Why didn't Red Hat choose to use the name "default" for the symlink, which is documented to be the default version, of there is no directory with the exact kernel version? - Although we can now have multiple releases of the same kernel version, how can this be used efficiently? Ideally, I would like to be able to specify this as boot parameter (LILO?), as only then I'm able to have multiple kernel releases installed and easily switch between them by rebooting (and choosing the right kernel with LILO). Just curious, as this topic always causes problems, when I need to switch between multiple kernels of the same version while testing (e.g., SMP or non-SMP, different drivers with the same kernel version, etc.). -- -- Jos Vos <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> -- X/OS Experts in Open Systems BV | Phone: +31 20 6938364 -- Amsterdam, The Netherlands | Fax: +31 20 6948204 -- PLEASE read the Red Hat FAQ, Tips, Errata and the MAILING LIST ARCHIVES! http://www.redhat.com/RedHat-FAQ /RedHat-Errata /RedHat-Tips /mailing-lists To unsubscribe: mail [EMAIL PROTECTED] with "unsubscribe" as the Subject.
