cwlai,
The first thing you should do is read the RHL 5.0 User's Guide--especially
the section "Before You Begin". You can find the manual online at
http://www.redhat.com/support/docs/rhl/manual/manual/
One important thing, though: if you have just a dial-up connection to the
Internet, you will not have much luck with the install as it is a fairly
long process and dial-up connections tend to break without warning.
However, if you have a LAN-based Internet connection, installing via FTP
is relatively easy. You will need to make two installation disks: a boot
disk and a supplemental disk. You will also need to know the IP address
of the server from which you will install, or have a valid nameserver
available.
Another option--if you have the equipment--is to download the entire
contents of the installation directory to a machine on your LAN that runs
an FTP server (ftpd). Then, you can use it locally and the actual
installation will go much more quickly--which is important if, like most
of us, you need go through the process more than once! I installed in
this fashion on a SPARC box here at our office. It worked like a charm.
It can't be stressed enough: Please read the installation guide at least
once before proceeding!
Good luck!
