You sure you typed zImage correctly? (simple but guilty) ;)
rickdman # locate zImage
/usr/src/linux-2.0.32/arch/i386/boot/zImage
Might need to be root and then:
root# find / -name zImage -print
If it is on the machine, the above will find it.
Be sure to check the date on the file.
